Who Makes These Kiss-Lock Bags and Why Do They Belong to TAKEMOTO?

In the early stages, custom eyewear designer and artisan Takemoto H. explored various crafting techniques due to his passion for multi-disciplinary handcrafts. By chance, he began designing traditional metal-frame kiss-lock bags. He initially crafted these calfskin and lambskin evening clutches as complimentary gifts for female clients, developing a proprietary artisan process. These gifts became highly favored, prompting the collection to expand into jacquard and authentic silk fabrics.

The main atelier of TAKEMOTO is located in a major metropolitan city, where our high-end bespoke eyewear is engineered. However, in 2017, driven by a regional poverty alleviation initiative, Takemoto H. traveled to a remote mountain village and established a rural satellite workshop. To spearhead local employment, he also established an international youth hostel there.

Since most women in this village remain at home to care for the elderly and children, yet possess highly skilled traditional textile techniques, he mobilized a micro-artisan production team in 2025. Currently, 3 to 4 local craftswomen meticulously hand-construct these kiss-lock bags during their spare time between agricultural duties and family care.

We previously utilized mass-market platforms to retail these collections. While sales volumes were strong, the margins were severely compressed under standard marketplace algorithms. To escape this structure, protect artisan wages, and offer proper after-sales service, we established this dedicated online store.

Although instructing these artisans required an immense amount of personal energy from Takemoto H., it stands as a deeply meaningful endeavor.
